Originally from the state of Maryland, I relocated to Texas in 1997.
I have made Fort Worth my home, where I live with my partner and our 3 dogs.
In my mid 40’s I found
myself caught in an unhappy rut.I
had been working at the same corporate job for the last 9 years in basically a
dead end position. As many people have dealt with, the economy had put this
company into a position where it was asking its employees to do much more with much
less. The day-to-day demands were constantly increasing and so was the stress
level. This constant stress was taking its toll on me and on my home life.It just didn’t feel right. There had to
be more to life out there other than this.
Because of these feelings I
found myself awakening to new spiritual directions.
As I began to explore, I
found myself hungry to learn more and to explore new paths.
Part of this spiritual exploration
was taking a class in Reiki.Reiki
is a Japanese technique that is used for stress reduction and relaxation and also
helps promote healing. Reiki works on the belief that the practitioner is transferring
universal life energy through the practitioner ‘s hands to the client.It is said to treat the whole person, body, mind and spirit by
transferring this positive energy, which clears and heals the body’s natural
energy pathways. The many beneficial effects include relaxation and feelings of
peace, security and overall well being. At this time I am currently a Reiki 2nd Degree
practitioner, certified through the International Center for Reiki Training,
with the plans to go onto the Master level.Exploring Reiki was the eye opener for me, and with that, I
knew I had found my direction. After learning Reiki, I knew that I wanted to
learn more about the healing arts.
At this point in my life I
decided to take a huge gamble and I left that unfulfilling job. I enrolled in a
Massage Therapy Certification program at the Institute for Natural Healing
Sciences in Colleyville, Texas.This program is a 500-hour program in Swedish Massage that includes
Anatomy and Physiology, Kinesiology, Hydrotherapy, Health, Hygiene and Swedish
Massage History and Technique.
I followed this program with additional training
in other massage techniques such as:
* Deep Tissue Neck and Back
* Deep Tissue Legs
* Polarity
Therapy
* Seated/Chair Massage
* Medical Massage Certification
* Medical Massage for the Neck
* Medical Massage for the Low Back and Hips
* Medical Massage for the Upper Extremities
* Medical Massage for the Lower Extremities
I have since established a
practice in Fort Worth, Texas
called Calming States Massage, where I offer a
range of services that can be tailored to my clients needs. Having a client
come to me that is in pain or stressed and to have them walk away feeling
relieved, relaxed and happy after a session is extremely fulfilling.
It was a hard struggle and a
very bumpy road to walk away from a stable job at my age, but what I found was
Me, not to mention a brand new career path and very fulfilling new direction. I
would say that after all of this, the main thing I have learned is that you
should follow your dreams, live your passions and never stop learning.
